Joy Inside Tears, a mental health non-profit in LaGrange, is set to host its second annual Suicide Prevention Awareness event on Saturday, Sep. 7.
The event will be held on Lafayette Square in LaGrange from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and sponsored by Wellstar Health System, Amerigroup and Biogen.
Joy Inside Tears CEO Tracie Halcrombe said the event is for everyone and invites the whole community to come out.
“Education is for everyone. So everyone is invited,” Halcrombe said. “We want to make sure families are coming and bringing their kids so they’re able to hear because it’s really to bring awareness and to bring hope, because a lot of people are in silence about what they’re going through, and they don’t know who to talk to.”
Halcrombe said they will have specific resources for different age groups and circumstances of life from agencies and partners throughout the community, like the Department of Public Health, which will have resources on mental health. The Veal Group will also be out with counseling resources for the community.
“I’m really excited about that aspect, us bringing specific community needs for everyone in our community, be it veterans, parents, mothers, LGBTQ, treatments and public health. It’s just going to be a great thing,” Halcrombe said.
Halcrombe said the event will also have speakers, like Miss LaGrange, who will openly share their stories.
The whole family is invited. Halcrombe said they will have a tent with activities, games and face painting to keep the younger kids occupied while their parents are getting the resources they need.
