The Troup County School System has announced a series of town hall meetings to hear from the public about what stakeholders are looking for from local public schools.
New School Superintendent Dr. Rachel Hazel will host four town hall meetings throughout the county in September.
The town halls are open to the public.
Hazel will host the meetings after the first month of school, during which she has visited with principals, teachers, students and staff in all 20 schools and saw effective and engaging learning happening in the classrooms.
Hazel said the purpose of the town hall meetings is to hear from all stakeholders.
“We are charged as a district with implementing the strategic plan, which they were all a part of,” Hazel said. “I think it’s important to reengage the community to make sure that our focuses are still aligned. And also with the new administration coming in to hear from everyone.”
Hazel said they will answer questions from the community but they will also have questions for the community.
“We want to answer their questions, but we have some questions for our community. One of the biggest ones is, what does success in the areas that are in our strategic plan look like? What do they consider to be successful milestones as we’re moving forward?” Hazel said.
Hazel said the goal is to have a structured conversation where they plan to ask very specific questions about things that will help move the district forward.
“It’s not really meant as a forum to air individual grievances, but it is a forum for discussing the work of learning and teaching children,” Hazel said. “That’s where we’re going to come from is looking at our strategic plan and just kind of recalibrating as a community.”
The town hall meetings will be held:
- Tuesday, Sep. 3 at the West Point Elementary cafeteria at 5:30 p.m.
- Thursday, Sep. 5 at the Hogansville Elementary auditorium at 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, Sep. 11 at the LaGrange High School auditorium at 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, Sep. 17 at the Troup High School auditorium at 5:30 p.m.
