The LaGrange softball got back to work on Tuesday after a short Labor Day break, dominating Upson-Lee 11-1 for a comfortable region victory.
The Grangers put a marker down early with three runs in the top of the third inning. Carolyne Garcia got the scoring start with a one-run single. Hudson Wood doubled the LaGrange lead with an RBI double. Wood scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to make it 3-0.
The Granger offense showed no signs of slowing down with Garcia and Wood hitting back-to-back one-run singles in the top of the second to push the LaGrange lead out to 5-0.
LaGrange was not done there, adding two more runs in the third inning. Ta’Niya Taylor and Abby McGill hit back-to-back RBI singles to give the Grangers a commanding 7-0 lead.
The little hope for a Upson-Lee comeback was squashed by the Granger offense in the top of the fourth as they scored four runs to all but put the game to bed. Tatum Nation hit a one-run triple to get the action started. Jasia Swanson proceeded to bring her home with a double. A Taylor one-run single made it 10-0 before a Shelby Siggers ground out drove home the final run of the inning for the away team.
Upson-Lee eventually broke through and got a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth but it served as little more than consolation for the home side.
McGill led the offense with three hits while Garcia, Taylor and Wood finished the game with two each. Nation, Siggers and Swanson all had a hit apiece in the game.
Kaylee Foster got the start in the circle and pitched a strong five inning in which she allowed just four hits and no earned runs on three strikeouts.
LaGrange is now 9-3 overall and 6-2 in region play. The Grangers will have to turn around quickly for another important region matchup at home on Wednesday against Trinity Christian.
