LPD warns of bitcoin scam

LAGRANGE, Georgia – On September 3, 2024, the LaGrange Police Department received two citizen complaints about a letter they had received. The letter alleged that the recipients had visited “unsuitable websites.” It claimed that an app had been downloaded on their phone, granting the sender full access to the victims’ devices. The letter demanded a specific amount of Bitcoin to erase the alleged compromising information.
