It was a comfortable evening at the office, aka Granger Park, for the LaGrange High softball team, who blasted Sandy Creek 12-1 on Tuesday night.

The game belonged to Ta’Niya Taylor, who had her best career game in blue and white. The junior was a cool 3-for-3 with five RBIs. None of those hits were bigger than her three-run homer to put LaGrange up 5-1 in the bottom of the first.

Taylor was not the only member of the Grangers who joined the home run club on the day as Abby McGill started the Grangers off with a bang, hitting a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the first and tie the game up at a run apiece. In between the two home runs, Tatum Nation hit a one-run double to give LaGrange a lead that it would never surrender.

Nation, a senior, had a field day from the plate, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs to help power the LaGrange offense to a big showing.

After the opening salvo of five runs in the first inning, LaGrange tacked on two more in the second. Nation hit her second double of the game to drive in a run and Shelby Siggers had an RBI groundout to push the LaGrange lead out to 7-1.

The offense showed no signs of slowing down in the third, adding five more runs to their tally. Carolina Garcia hit a one-run single to drive home the first run of the inning. Nation continued her huge day at the plate by hitting her third double of the game to drive in two additional runs. Taylor singled to drive home her final two runs of the game and give LaGrange a 12-1 lead.

The game was called after 4.5 innings as the home team triggered the mercy rule.

McGill, Garcia and Jasia Swanson all had a hit apiece for the LaGrange offense.

Senior Kaylee Foster got the start in the circle and pitched a strong opening three innings. She allowed just one hit and one earned run on four strikeouts. She eventually made way for fellow senior Zoe Thompson, who threw the final two innings, allowing just one hit to go along with three strikeouts.

LaGrange has now won four games in a row to improve to 13-6 overall and 8-3 in region play. The Grangers will have a pivotal region matchup on the road to Whitewater on Thursday. The Wildcats won the opening game between the two teams this season in a thrilling 2-1 game at Granger Park.
