The City of LaGrange is preparing for the possibility of severe weather starting Wednesday evening in anticipation of Tropical Storm Helene. Tuesday, Governor Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency for the entire state of Georgia, and Wednesday, Troup County Commission Chairman Patrick Crews declared a local state of emergency. The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security are warning residents that this storm could bring 10 to 15 inches of rain, 70 mph wind gusts, the possibility of flooding, and significant power outages.

In anticipation of possible severe weather, city staff have additional personnel on standby and emergency equipment prepared for use to be ready to respond as quickly and safely as possible. The City of LaGrange continues to communicate with area municipalities, including the Troup County Emergency Management Agency, to stay on top of the possibility of severe weather.

If you are displaced by this storm, please call the Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS.

If you lose power during normal business hours, 8AM to 5PM, call (706) 883-2030. If you lose power after hours, call (706) 883-2130.

Public safety officials ask residents not to call 911 if the situation is not an emergency to ensure the lines are open for true emergencies.
