As the spooky season approaches, the Troup County Archives is set for the return of its annual Halloween Tours. This year’s tour is titled Mystery in our History: Hillview Cemetery.

On Oct. 25 and 26, participants can step into the shadows and learn the history of LaGrange’s Hillview Cemetery. The family-friendly tour will reveal the secrets of some of Hillview’s most notable residents and share the chilling tales of their lives and the mysterious surroundings of their final resting places.

For the past few years, the Archives has offered similar walking tours for the Halloween season.

Troup County Archives Curator Victoria Larcheveaux advised that while the tour will be spooky because of its evening setting in a cemetery, it is family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.

This year’s tour will feature stops around Hillview Cemetery, where people can get a behind-the-scenes look at the people buried there. The guided tour will be led by archives staff and include costumed actors to tell the tales of Hillview’s eternal residents.

Larcheveaux said this is the first year that they will have costumed actors in Hillview Cemetery.

One of the stops will highlight Abner Turner, who was the first person buried in Hillview Cemetery.

Tickets for the tour are $15 for adults, $10 for students and children (12 and under, and $12 for Troup County Historical Society Members.

Tours will start from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on both days. Archives staff ask that guests arrive 10 to 15 minutes before their scheduled start time.

The tours last approximately one hour and take place on uneven terrain with low lighting. Comfortable shoes are strongly encouraged.
