The Troup softball team had a field day on Thursday, destroying Sandy Creek 15-0 in a game that lasted just three innings.
The Tigers laid the hammer down early, scoring 11 runs in the first inning. Kaitlyn Smalley got the action started with a one-run single. This was just the appetizer as Sheniyah Philpot proceeded to hit a grand slam three batters later to push the Troup lead out to 5-0. Two separate errors allowed the following four runs to score. The lineup came all the way back around and Smalley came through again with a one-run triple. Camdyn Bassett hit a sacrifice fly to send home the final run of the inning.
Troup got two more runs in the second. Zoe Graham had an RBI groundout and Smalley had a one-run single to make it 14-0.
Smalley had a big day offensively, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
The Tigers scored the final run of the game in the third inning when Chelsea Peacock was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Philpot, Kaylee Cardwell, Cayleigh Godfrey and Briley Pike all had a hit each for the Troup offense.
Bassett got the start in the circle and pitched all three innings in which she allowed just one hit on six strikeouts.
Troup improved to 11-12 overall and 8-5 in region play. The Tigers will return to action next Monday against Spalding at home with a win in that game securing the team a spot in the 2024 3A state playoffs.
