The Tropical Depression: Saturday, Oct 5 update from the NHC on latest developments

The tropical depression was first addressed in an advisory by the National Hurricane Center at 10 am Saturday. The tropical depression is 210 miles north-northeast of Veracruz Mexico and 350 miles west of Progreso Mexico, with maximum sustained wind of 35 mph. It’s moving 3 mph to the north-northeast. The tropical depression is expected to strengthen.

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND:

SURF: Swells generated by the system will begin to affect the coast of the southwestern Gulf of Mexico today. These swells are expected to spread northward and eastward along much of the Gulf Coast by early next week. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
