Due to extreme overcrowding, the LaGrange Animal Shelter is holding free adoptions for dogs and cats at two locations on Saturday, October 12th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The first location is at the LaGrange Fire Department’s Citizens’ Day at the LaGrange Mall. The second location will be at the City of LaGrange Animal Shelter.
The shelter is struggling to handle the large influx of animals. The Puppy Pipeline usually helps to transport animals to the north, but recent storms have affected the roadways. The shelter is also seeing more local animal drop-offs.
“We are seeing more families dropping off their animals because of the economy,” said LaGrange Animal Services Supervisor Chris Bussey. “We are having a hard time keeping up with the influx of animals coming into the shelter, so we are offering free adoptions for this day.”
Bussey wants families to know that if they are struggling to provide for their pets, the shelter will provide free pet food while supplies last. Pet owners are encouraged to have their cats and dogs fixed to help control the pet population.
October is “Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.” The shelter will offer half-off puppy and dog adoptions for the entire month other than Saturday, October 12th. The adoption fee will range from $9.25 to $37.50.
The LaGrange Animal Services building is at 1390 Orchard Hill Road in LaGrange. You can also reach them at (706) 298-3606 or via Facebook at www.facebook.com/CityOfLaGrangeAnimalShelter/
