On Thursday, local golfers and business professionals returned to Highland Country Club for the annual Chamber of Commerce golf tournament.

The Peachy Greens Chamber Golf Classic, as the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce tournament has been known for a few years now, is a four-person scramble format, where two flights of teams in the morning and afternoon compete for the lowest score. The best shot is used among team members as they play through the course.

The annual tournament was created about 20 years ago as a networking opportunity for chamber members. The teams are typically businesses, so the tournament gives their employees to network on the greens.

Teams compete for the top prize, but the goal is to have fun, mingle and talk business. Each hole also hosts “Business on the Tee,” where chamber members sponsor tent booths at each tee box.

A total of 29 teams, consisting of four players per team, participated in the 2024 Peachy Greens golf tournament, with 12 teams in the morning flight and 17 in the afternoon.

Throughout the day, there are additional contests, such as the Around the World Putting competition, where golfers surround a green and take simultaneous shots at the hole in rounds until someone sinks the shot. The “Pot Shot” contest returned as well, where participants compete for the best shot while sitting on a bathroom toilet or “pot.”

Interface took home first place overall, earning $1,200 in Shop Troup credit. Jersey Mike’s won second place, won $600 in golf shop credit, and Practice Swing Infor Golf Center received third place and $400 in golf shop credit.

“It went great. The weather was amazing. We couldn’t have asked for a better day,” said Chamber President Connie Hensler. “Everyone seemed to have a great time. They were networking, which is really what the purpose of it is, and we had new businesses participate. So they got to show what they do and introduce themselves to the community.”

“We accomplished our goal and look forward to next year,” she said.
