Ret. Lt. Colonel Fred Douglas Walker Jr., age 59 of LaGrange, GA passed away on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at Wellstar West Ga Hospice in LaGrange, G eorgia.

Doug was preceded by his father Fred D. Walker and grandaughter, Camryn Matticola.

Doug loved his family and his country.

He was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square for many years.

Doug proudly served his country for 34 years in the United States Air Force Air National Guard and retired with many decorations awards and honors.

He was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 9 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, AF Overseas Ribbon Short, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon, AF Longevity Service with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 2 Hourglass Devices, Army NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Markmanship Ribbon, AF Training Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, and Air National Guard Engineering Installation Squadrons Officer of the Year (2000).

He is survived by his wife Ginnie Walker; daughters, Jill (Jake) Hembree, Jennifer (Cory) Matticola, Alex (Will) Smith; son, Will (Tina) Walker; grandchildren, Brady Hembree, Maddox Hembree, Beckett Matticola, Callye Ann Matticola and Graham Walker; mother Loretta Walker and brother, Donnie (Kristy) Walker.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Wednesday, Oct.16, 2024, from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange, Georgia.

The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1 PM.

A Military Burial Ceremony will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, AL on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024 at 11 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wellstar West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange, Georgia.
