The Lafayette Christian football team earned a dominant 44-19 win over New Creation on Friday night.

The Cougars meant business from the offset, scoring the first 37 points of the game.

Lafayette Christian took almost no time off the clock to get the first score of the game as David Karvelas hit Johnathan Ross for a 36-yard touchdown pass. Karvelas sliced and diced the defense all night long, completing 11-of-13 passes for 277 yards.

Bradley Miller would score minutes later on a 3-yard run to put the Cougars up 13-0.

Lafayette Christian would score one more time in the first quarter as Connor Hudson rumbled 26 yards for a score.

The Cougars showed no signs of slowing down in the second quarter, scoring on a hook and ladder play that saw Hudson run about 50 yards into the end zone just seconds into the second quarter.

The Cougars’ quickly got their third interception of the game and turned it into a touchdown when Karvelas hit Hudson for a 24-yard touchdown.

New Creation would finally get on the board with a long touchdown pass late in the first half, but the Cougars would get those points right back as the Karvelas-Ross connection came through again with a beautiful 45-yard touchdown to put the road team up 44-6 at halftime.

After eclipsing 200 yard receiving in his last game, Ross put together another stellar showing against the Crusaders, finishing Friday’s game with 148 yards receiving and three touchdowns. He was not the only Cougar with a three touchdown performance as Hudson scored three as well as 117 yards from scrimmage.

Lafayette Christian took its foot off the gas in the second half as a running clock ensued and the team emptied their bench to get some young players some experience. The Crusaders got a touchdown early in the second half, but the Lafayette Christian lead was still a whopping 31 points.

New Creation would score one final time late in the game to make the final score a bit more flattering.

The final score did not do the Cougars’s defense justice. The team intercepted three passes and completely dominated the game before the backups came in once the game was well out of reach.

Lafayette Christian improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in region play. The Cougars will host Central Christian in their final regular season home game of the season.
