From Troup County School System:
LaGrange, Ga. October 23, 2024 – Today school administration at Ethel Kight Elementary School received a report that a student had an object that was inappropriate for school. According to law enforcement, it was determined that the item in question was an all-plastic, BB pistol, commonly referred to as a BB gun.
While this device is not a firearm, it does qualify as a weapon under Georgia law (O.C.G.A. 16-11-127.1) and is prohibited in a school safety zone.
Appropriate disciplinary action is being taken, and there was never a threat to students or staff.
The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. We encourage you to monitor the items your children bring to school.
Dr. Nigel Walker, principal of Ethel Kight, will notify parents of the school by SchoolStatus, the notification system used by the Troup County School System.
TCSS thanked administrators, staff, and law enforcement for promptly, thoroughly, and responsibly addressing this situation.
