The Troup High School Choral Department will present “A Tribute to Veterans” on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. Troup High choral members, under the direction of Kathy Kirby, will share the stage with select students from Troup High feeder schools. Schools participating include Berta Weathersbee, Clearview, Long Cane, Rosemont, and West Point Elementary Schools and the Long Cane Middle Choir under the direction of Asha Brown. A variety of songs will be performed, including popular 40’s songs, patriotic tunes, and Armed Forces fight songs. Emcee for the evening is local radio personality Jack Bagley.
Kathy Kirby is in her 12th year as the Choral Director at Troup High after teaching music for 17 years at Long Cane Elementary and Berta Weathersbee. Kirby began her career in Douglasville as band director at Chestnut Log Middle School. In 1996, she moved to LaGrange to become the music specialist at Long Cane Elementary and later acquired Berta Weathersbee. Outside of school, Kirby performs in community choirs and orchestras, has played with the LaGrange Symphony for 20 years, and is the West Georgia News Director for Eagle 102.3.
This concert started in 2014 under Kirby’s direction. She will be retiring at the end of this school year and hopes that the tradition will continue after her tenure. “Not only do we share our music with the veterans, we are able to donate hundreds of dollars to the American Legion to help veterans in need. I really hope that continues after I’m retired”, Kirby said.
The concert will be held at the Troup High School Fine Arts Auditorium on Tuesday, November 12th at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. Donations will be collected for our local American Legion Post 75.
