Decades after closing as Hogansville’s Theater and over a year of construction and rehabilitation, the Royal Theater will once again serve the region as a live performance space and the local movie theater. A Grand Opening Gala is set for Saturday, November 9th to rededicate the fully restored Art Deco theater with a performance featuring Joe Gransden and his Big Band.
Band leader Joe Gransden has performed worldwide and released 19 CDs under his own name. Renowned first for the hard bop approach of his trumpet, Gransden’s singing voice has been compared to that of Chet Baker and Frank Sinatra. “Music has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember,” says the unassuming Joe Gransden. “I can remember practicing with my father, and eventually him taking me along to sit in at jam sessions. While still in high school, I knew that music was the life I would choose.”
A post-performance party is planned for all those who attend the performance to celebrate the re-opening of the city’s national landmark.
The Royal Theater will host a broad range of performances and artists throughout the year including HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS starring Peobo Bryson, Ruben Studdard, and Haley Reinhart December 13 & 14. A schedule of classic and contemporary movies will be screened on weekends and the Theater will host the Calloway School’s concerts and performances.
