The Choral Society of West Georgia will present its annual Thanksgiving concert on Nov. 23-24.
This year’s concert is titled Seasons of Gratitude: A Concert of Thanksgiving and Praise. The fall concert has become an annual tradition for the Choral Society of West Georgia, which is currently celebrating its 20th season.
The concert is directed by Andrew Harry and will feature guest narration from Andrew Gordon. The show will feature all of the singers as well as our accompanist, Ken Passmore, and guest musicians on organ and percussion.
“We’re going to be doing a wide variety of choral pieces that touch on a lot of different aspects of life,” Harry said.
The concert will include familiar American hymns like Come Thou Fount, My Song in the Night, as well as some other autumn-themed pieces.
Harry said most of the music in the show is explicitly based on thankfulness as a whole.
While many consider Thanksgiving to be the start of the Christmas season, Harry said the concert is strictly Thanksgiving and will not feature any Christmas music.
“We do it this way because we feel like Thanksgiving is the holiday that sort of gets passed over. Our goal is to bring attention to another holiday that’s very important but that usually gets lost in Christmas,” Harry said.
“This concert has something for everybody. It has some very traditional major choral works, as well as some contemporary settings that are absolutely stunning. I think it’s going to be an interesting concert for anybody, whether they’re seasoned choral veterans or they’re just looking for an interesting music-listening opportunity. I think it’s going to be a treat for anybody who comes,” Harry said.
Seasons of Gratitude will be performed on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 24, at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in LaGrange.
Tickets are $20 and $10 for students with ID.
