The Troup softball team went on a season of ups and downs. A slow start eventually made way for a strong end to the season, culminating in a playoff berth and the team’s first win against rival LaGrange in over two years. The season reached its conclusion in the first round of the playoffs against Mary Persons in October, but the good news for the Tigers is that they are set to return every single player that took the field in that series, six of which made the All-Region teams/honorable mention lost for Region 2-3A.
The Tigers had three members on the first team — juniors Kaitlyn Smalley, Zoe Graham and Sheniyah Philpot. The junior contingent on Troup was strong and they will continue to be the foundation moving forward. Smalley had the rare distinction of making both the first and second team. She made the first team for leading the Tigers in hits, batting average and steals as an outfield and made the second team for her work as a pitcher, where she led the team in innings pitched and strikeouts. Graham, the pint-sized infielder had her best season yet as a junior. She spent the majority of the season at shortstop but played some third base as well, where she was more than up to the task. Philpot, a dominant two-sport athlete for the Tigers as she now transitions to the basketball season, made the first team as an outfielder.
In addition to Smalley, the Tigers had Olivia Damron earn a spot on the second team. The sophomore first baseman enjoyed a breakout season and is just beginning to scratch the surface of her potential.
Troup placed two players on the honorable mention list —- juniors Kaylee Umfress and Gracie Baker. The former made the honorable mention list as both an outfielder and a pitcher. The talented junior was sorely missed down the stretch as she missed the end of the season, including all of the playoffs with a leg injury. Baker claimed the starting catcher spot in 2023, but fully came into her own in 2024.
