James “Jamie” Thrailkill (R) will soon be joining the Troup County Board of Commissioners.
Thrailkill defeated Democratic Party challenger Andrew Moody to take the District 2 seat.
Thrailkill won by a resounding margin, earning 6498 (75%) votes to Moody’s 2178 (25%). The results are unofficial but all precincts have reported in, including early voting and mail-in results.
In June, Thrailkill defeated incumbent Ellis Cadenhead in a runoff election for the Republican nomination for the Troup County Commissioner for District 2.
The seat is not Thrailkill’s first foray into local public service. The commissioner-elect has also served on the Planning and Zoning Board. Thrailkill will be joined on the board by Rex Scott who also primaried his Republican opponent in June.
“It’s been a long time coming. I’ve been working hard at it for the last 12 months. I’m very thankful. I’m looking forward to start working for the citizens of the district,” Thrailkill said after the victory.
Moody congratulated Thrailkill in defeat, wishing him the best for leading District 2.
“I’ll see him in the next round. If I do it again, but probably not,” Moody said. “The people’s voices have been heard … congratulations to him.”
