LaGrange College senior Parker Lovett barely has a second to breathe. The busiest man on campus it seems at times. In between classes and playing basketball for the Panthers, Lovett is president of the sports management club, a former assistant coach on the women’s basketball team, was a member of the cross-country team, is Vice President of the Baptist Collegiate Ministries, among other organizations on campus.

“Here’s a bunch of organizations that I’ve tried to get my feet in, but now that I’m towards the end, I’m mainly just trying to go all in on basketball and sports management,” he said with a chuckle.

Even with all those organizations occupying his time the last few years he has still made time for other stuff. What has really caught the attention of those around the country is his graphic design ability.

Over the last couple of years, Lovett has started his own graphic design company that creates sports graphics for social media and websites. It started at the high school and division III college level but has quickly flourished and attracted clientele from a much higher level.

“I started at first because I wanted to make a little money and build my resume and it kind of took off more than I expected,” Lovett said. “Right now, I have probably, on retainer for the whole season 25 or 30 schools, but there’s probably 20 more that don’t have me on retainer, but It’s just like, hey, whenever they need this. Just this morning I made a graphic for Central Florida women’s basketball. So like, working with division one schools is kind of cool. I have done stuff for Navy, worked with Pacific Gardner-Webb, I did some stuff for Texas women’s basketball, so it’s been kind of cool to see it take off.”

Like almost all young entrepreneurs, Lovett started with a dream and a strong work ethic. It did not happen overnight, but in some ways it feels like it did.

“After my freshman year, I had like that whole off season just to kind of work on it. And like, my old high school coach and a bunch of high schools back home (Alabama), and they’re like, hey would you want to do our graphics for like our high school season? I was like, sure why not,” Lovett said. “I started with 4-6 high schools that I worked with, and then didn’t really promote my work. Word got out and then this summer I had about 25 high schools and it became a lot so I had to work on organizing a structure so I didn’t get overwhelmed.”

Life has flashed before his eyes and because of his class workload. Lovett, who should be a junior, is in his final year at LaGrange College. He has his heart firmly planted on coaching basketball in his next step.

Going into coaching might mean that Lovett will have to say at least a temporary goodbye to his graphic design path.

“So my goal career wise, after this and the whole reason I learned Photoshop was because I want to coach college basketball and the next step for me is to be a graduate assistant, get my masters paid for,” Lovett said. “A lot of the advice I kept getting was, everyone needs Photoshop, everyone needs graphic design so I decided to learn it.”

“The NCAA has a lot of rules. Like, let’s say if I’m a GA for a school, you’re not really supposed to communicate with high school coaches, just because of recruiting violations and stuff like that, so I may have to give it all up. We’ll see.”

LaGrange College has truly become a second home for Lovett. A place for friendship, learning and so much more.

“If you play for Coach (Kendal) Wallace  he would do anything for you until we’ll never see each other again, he’ll have our backs forever and he was a big part of me coming here,” Lovett said. “This is where I felt like the Lord was calling me and everything lined up with the academics and athletics and I couldn’t have asked for a better college experience.”
