The Defending America’s Defenders (DAD) annual Toy Run is set for Saturday, Nov. 23.
DAD is a veteran’s club that helps out with the Veterans Affairs of LaGrange. Brundage said this can look different depending on what the veterans need.
The group helps veterans in different areas that need assistance, like getting all their forms filled out or taking them to the hospital.
“They’ll do whatever they have to do. They are a really good group, and we like doing this,” said Ray Brundage, who helps organize the event as part of the Bikers Association of Troup (BAT).
Brundage is a military veteran himself, having served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, so helping vets is in his blood.
Proceeds from the event benefit local children’s charities.
The event will be at 2516 Upper Big Springs Rd. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with kick stands up at 11 a.m. sharp. The event costs $20, or participants can bring a new unwrapped toy.
Brundage said the toy will go to local groups like the Empty Stocking Fund, but they make sure the kids of local vets have what they need first.
The event is also a “Poker Run,” where participants will draw cards from stops along the way. The best poker hand at the end wins a cash prize. Stops along the way include Fat Daddy’s, Mama’s Pizzeria and Pyne Road Sports Bar.
When the riders return, the party will continue until 4 p.m., where they will have live music, raffles, an auction, and a food truck.
Brundage said the run isn’t just for bikers, and the whole community is invited, especially for the activities at the clubhouse. You don’t even have to have a motorcycle to participate in the ride.
“Anybody can. If you want to bring a horse and wagon, I don’t care. Any cars, jeeps, motorcycles, bicycles, whatever, anybody can come to this ride,” Brundage said.
