On Wednesday morning, the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the newest addition to the Rail District, Crescent Station.
Crescent Station is a new event center in the renovated former Newman Construction Supply warehouse. Much of the former construction supply company has gone under significant renovations to convert it to other uses and support the downtown area of LaGrange.
Transforming into Crescent Station, the former warehouse has been converted into a large event space with an upscale train depot theme.
Phillip Abbot, the developer who helped create the Rail District, said the inspiration for it was to revitalize areas of LaGrange.
“This was declining. It was a business district in the past, so we’re revitalizing this business district. These buildings have been abandoned and not utilized for a long time. So this was an opportunity with such a large space to give us an opportunity to do expos, small concerts and hings that we don’t have really access to,” Abbott said.
“This is the biggest [indoor] event space in Troup County, at this point,” Abbot said.
Abbott said the event center is ready to roll now, they just need to finish some final polish. Crescent Station has already hosted a handful of events. The event center hosted an entrepreneur expo and a quinceañera with 600 people, along with this year’s chill cookoff when the event was forced from Lafayette Square due to rain.
We’re a good backup for large events downtown since we have air conditioning and shelter from the rain, Abbott said.
Abbott is continuing plans to develop the Rail District.
“We’ve got an activity bar [planned], which is going to center around Pickleball. We also have a market space where we’re going to do a weekend marketplace,” Abbott said, noting he is working to bring in some food options as well.
