The Troup boys basketball team is off to a hot start to the season, beating Harris County 64-48 on Friday to remain undefeated on the young season.
The Tigers of Troup came out of the gates with intent, capturing a 25-10 lead after the opening quarter. Troup never gave an inch from there and took a 32-16 lead into halftime.
After a blistering start to the game for the Troup offense, the Tigers went cold in the second quarter and outscored Harris County just 7-6 in the period.
Troup would outscore Harris County 15-11 in the third quarter which gave them a 20-point lead heading to the fourth quarter, allowing second-year head coach Vacher Hammett to empty his bench.
The offense was spread around for Troup as the Tigers had 13 players in the scoring column. DeJaylen Campbell led the way with 12 points, scoring nine in the first quarter to give Troup an early advantage. Gavin Gates was second on the team in scoring with nine while Vakiel Garrett-Hammett finished with eight points.
Troup also saw the season debut of some of its football players, including but not limited to Chase Hilton and Amarius Perdue.
This was the second straight game that Troup has been without one of its best players, if not its best player, in junior Jalen Brown, who is recovering from an injury.
Troup is now 2-0 to start the season. The Tigers will return to the court after Thanksgiving break as they are set to host Spencer on Dec. 3.
