The City of LaGrange honored  LaGrange Public Works Operations Director Bo Prather for his 25 years  of dedicated service at the recent City Council meeting.

Prather began his career with the City of LaGrange in 1999 after leaving  Georgia Pacific. He was hired as a Senior Public Service Associate in the  Landscape Department, where he maintained the downtown  landscape, supported various crews, and assisted with special events. In

2001, Prather transferred to the Street Department, further expanding  his expertise in public works, obtaining a commercial driver’s license,  and refining his skills as an equipment operator. His supervisor praised  his work, noting that it was always “thorough, neat, and completed on  time.”

By 2004, Prather’s leadership and communication abilities were  becoming evident, and he was recognized for his key role in significant  projects, including the installation of the ethane pipeline at the landfill  and the storm drain pond at Granger Park. In 2005, he took on his first  supervisory role as a crew leader, overseeing street, sidewalk, and  storm drain repairs. His supervisor commended him, saying, “Chris is a  valuable employee, has done a good job heading up our safety  program, and does a quality job on each task that is assigned to him  and his crew.”

In 2015, Prather’s responsibilities expanded when he was appointed to  a newly created management position overseeing both street and  landscape operations. His role continued to grow in 2017, when the  loss of inmate labor led to him taking on additional responsibilities,  including managing more staff and overseeing the cemetery operation.

Later that year, recognizing his exceptional leadership, Prather was  promoted to the head of the entire Public Works Division, overseeing  streets, sanitation, landscaping, parks, cemeteries, and the garage.

Today, as the Public Works Operations Director, Prather’s dedication,  expertise, and commitment to the community are evident in every  aspect of his work, contributing greatly to the City of LaGrange and its  citizens.

Prather is happily married to his wife April, and they are proud parents  to three daughters and a grandson, who all bring great joy to his life.
