The Region 2-3A All-Region teams are chalk full of LaGrange football players. The Grangers saw 13 of their very best players make the teams with a further 12 being named to the honorable mention list.
The Grangers were led by Malachi Fannin-Render, who was named as the co-offensive player of the year. The Liberty commit finished the regular season with nearly 1,700 yards from scrimmage and 23 touchdowns. The senior running back did it all for the Grangers in the regular season and continues to shine in the postseason, being named the Georgia High School Football Daily Player of the Week for his performance against Sandy Creek in the second round of the state playoffs.
Fannin-Render’s running mate — junior quarterback Dylan Barber — was named to the first team as one of the quarterbacks. Barber transferred in from Heritage and quickly made the quarterback position his own, starting every game for the Grangers this season. The junior finished his first regular season with the Grangers with 758 passing yards and 753 rushing yards alongside 18 total touchdowns and just two interceptions. The two were joined by one more Granger on the first team — Carson Shattuck. After a breakout sophomore season in 2023, Shattuck has come into his own as a starter and leader on the offensive line. Expect the big man to have another great season as a senior before applying his craft at the next level.
The Grangers had two players making the first-team defense — Spencer Stroud and Harris Grace. Stroud was a role player last season, but a star this year. The senior defensive lineman finished the regular season with a team-leading nine sacks. Stroud continued to make plays after the regular season concluded. He has had no finer showing this season than his three sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in last Friday’s playoff upset of Sandy Creek.
Harris has been a stalwart at linebacker for the Grangers the last several years. The senior finished the regular season with 46 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Junior Mason Calhoun was the lone Granger special teams player to be named to the first team. Calhoun had a tremendous year punting the ball and serving as the team’s short range kicker. LaGrange did have another special teamer make the second team, however. Freshman Cooper Metcalf burst onto the high school scene this season to earn the nod. He has an extremely strong leg and handled kickoffs and long field goals in his first season at the high school level.
LaGrange had two players — Denorayon Reid and Clanton Reisinger — named to the second-team defense. Reid, a wide receiver, led the Grangers in the regular season with 14 receptions for 265 yards and four touchdowns. The versatile senior also played some in the secondary and had a passing touchdown to his name. Reisinger, also a senior, was one of the main reasons that Fannin-Render and the run game worked so well this season as he helped consistently open up holes for the runners to cut through and head up field.
The Grangers saw even more players named to the second-team defense with four earning a spot in total. Nehemiah McLaughlin, a junior defensive lineman was named to the team for registering 33 tackles, four tackles for a loss and three sacks. Braylon Smith, a junior defensive tackle, made the team after a breakout season in blue and white. Linebacker Corn Brown did not come into the season as a starter, but quickly made a huge impact when Noah Outland was lost for the season with an injury. Brown, a junior, led the team with 56 tackles while also contributing two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception. Kayden Sutton, a senior defensive back, led the back end of the defense for LaGrange. Sutton finished the regular season with 32 tackles, four interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
LaGrange also saw 12 players named to the honorable mention list — Drek Williams, Ivan Gomez, Jay Mitchell, Julain Jones, Kalvin Snowberger, AJ Johnson, Hezykiah Avery, Braylin Smith, Freddie Vaughn, Yazirick Dorsey, Caydin Thomas and Javier Easter.
