Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Troup boys basketball team is riding high to start the 2024 season. The Tigers dominated Spencer 71-48 on Tuesday to cruise to their third win in a row and stay undefeated on the season.

The Tigers were in complete control from the opening whistle to the final buzzer. Troup blasted its way past the Green Wave in the first quarter, taking a 27-5 lead after the opening eight minutes and never looked back.

Spencer looked shellshocked as a deep Troup team threw body after body at them with tremendous success. In total, 11 different Troup players got in the scoring column on Tuesday.

Whether it was the first or the second unit, Spencer had no answers. By halftime the Troup lead stood at 41-17 with no way back for Spencer on the road.

It did not get much better for the Green Wave in the second half as Troup’s lead swelled to 57-28 heading to the fourth quarter.

A shortened fourth quarter allowed head coach Vacher Hammett to go even deeper into his bench and get some of the JV guys some varsity reps which did allow the Green Wave to make the final score a bit more flattering in their favor.

The dynamic duo of DeJaylen Campbell and Jalen Brown led the offense for Troup. The former led the team with 18 points while the latter finished with 17. Campbell set the tone in the first quarter with eight points and as the team’s starting point guard, led the team’s offense all night.

Gavin Gates also had a solid night for Troup, scoring 11 points. It was an uncharacteristically quiet night for Dee Moreland as he transitioned from the gridiron to the hardwood recently, finishing with just five points.

It was a packed house to see the red-hot Troup team and the Tigers delivered as they have all season, winning each of their first three games by at least 13 points.

Troup (3-0) will host Mary Persons on Thursday for the team’s region opener as the Tigers look to keep up their undefeated start to the season.
