On Monday night, the Wellstar Enoch Callaway Cancer Center held its annual Cancer Survivor Christmas Party at the Oakfuskee Conservation Center.
The center has put on the event for the last few years to celebrate the cancer survivors that come through the Cancer Center at Wellstar. The survivors, their family members and caregivers are treated to a holiday evening and meal, and a chance to talk about their shared experiences with fellow survivors.
Throughout the night, prizes ranging from gift certificates to gift baskets were raffled off from local businesses to give to the survivors. Thanks to their generosity, nearly every survivor was able to take a gift home.
The event also gives staff members at the Cancer Center an opportunity to see the patients who have passed through their office as they continue to live their lives.
Megan Hudson, Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Services for LaGrange College served as emcee for the event, raffling off prizes as the survivors enjoyed their holiday meals. Student-athletes from LaGrange College also served as volunteer servers for the meal service.
“It’s just an annual event we do to bring our survivors together and celebrate them,” said Stephanie Hand of Wellstar. “It lets us see them and we can enjoy Christmas and have a good time.”
