For the 41st year, the LaFayette Society for Performing Arts Ballet Company will be putting on the Nutcracker ballet from Dec. 6 to 8 at the Troup High School fine arts auditorium.

The holiday tradition takes kindergarten through 12th-grade dancers at the company in order to pull off the Tchaikovsky ballet. The show is directed by Amy Orr. Ticket prices range depending on seating, with student tickets costing $10 to $15 and adult tickets running from $20 to $25.

LSPA will also be bringing in two professional male dancers at partnering companies to join the ensemble.

For those who have not been to a ballet performance, Carrie Vice, Executive Director of LSPA, recommends this performance in particular.

The biggest thing about ballet… it’s a visual art,” Vice said. “It’s a Christmas story that kind of leads into a dream, and they see lots of different things that represent different countries, and it’s very visual. It’s beautiful.”

The story follows a German family in the early 19th century on Christmas Eve. A toymaker gives the protagonist, Clara, a nutcracker for Christmas. After Clara’s brother Fritz breaks the toy, the girl leaves it to rest in her doll bed. At night, the nutcracker, and other toys spring to life and Clara is transported to the Land of Sweets, ruled by the beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy.

There will be four performances over three days. On Friday, Dec. 6 there will be a 7 p.m. show. The following day, there will be a matinee at 2 p.m. and a 7 p.m. performance. On Sunday, there will only be a 2 p.m. performance. Tickets can be purchased on the LSPA website or by calling 706-882-9909.
