In October, the Georgia-Alabama chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) held its 42nd annual car show in Troup County, raising about $20,000 for two worthy charities.
AACA is the largest automobile club in the world, with many chapters. The Georgia-Alabama chapter of AACA hosts its annual car show each year in LaGrange.
This year’s show was held on Oct. 5 at Forestry 21 on New Franklin Road just outside LaGrange. The show had been held for many years at the LaGrange Mall until expansion left little room for the show.
This year’s show saw 142 cars on the lot with a whopping 162 sponsors.
Because of the success of the show, the club was able to donate $20,000 in proceeds from the annual event.
“We donated $20,000 to charity, $10,000 to St. Jude’s Hospital and Empowerment 3D in LaGrange, our local charity this year,” said Charles Norris, who has served as the club’s president for 13 years.
Norris said the club gives to St. Jude every year but chooses a different local charity for a portion of the proceeds each year.
Most are probably familiar with St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, but Empowerment 3D is a local young men’s mentorship founded by Jerome Cofield.
“They mentor young boys who don’t have a father in the home to understand what it is to be a man and a father,” Norris said. “They mentor kids from eight to 15.”
