The Troup girls basketball team has found its groove. The Tigers toppled Spalding 58-37 on the road on Friday for their fourth straight win.

The Tigers put the Jaguars to the sword early. That trademark Troup defense under head coach Carla Thornton was swarming on Friday night. Troup allowed just five points in the first quarter and subsequently had a 19-5 lead after the opening quarter of play. By halftime the Troup lead ballooned out to 32-15.

The Jaguars had no answers for Sheniyah Philpot, especially in the first half where she scored 14 of her 22 points. The junior missed the last game with an injury, but did not look sluggish in her return to the court.

The second half was more of the same. The Tigers were able to take a 48-24 lead into the fourth quarter where the team was able to let their foot off the gas with the game well in hand.

Raygen Godfrey had a solid showing on offense, finishing with 10 points as the only other Troup player besides Philpot in double figures for scoring on the night.

Troup improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in region play. The Tigers will turn around quickly, hosting Heard County on Saturday at 3 p.m. for a non-region contest.
