Kalvin Snowberger enjoyed a breakout junior season. The LaGrange High wide receiver came into the season expecting to be third or fourth in the pecking order. Injuries piled up early in the season and Snowberger had to fill a bigger role and he stepped up in a big way.

“I didn’t really expect [a big role] if I’m being honest, because we just have playmakers everywhere, but I stepped up into the role throughout the season with injuries going on with Jordan Stringer and just people in general. So I mean I just had to step up and do my part,” Snowberger said. “After game one I knew I had to step up because seeing Gryson (Cockrell) go down with the ACL injury, out for the rest of the season, there was no other choice, and from there on, it was a big role for me.”

Snowberger finished second on the team in receiving yards with 280 while leading the team in receiving touchdowns with five. He was a true home run threat for the Grangers as he averaged 28 yards per reception.

“It’s an amazing feeling. I wish it was still going,” he said. “I just knew that I had it in me. It’s just I had to wait my turn, and I did, and I proved that I was ready.”

The junior’s impact continued to grow as the season went along. Snowberger’s best game of the season came in the state quarterfinals when he caught two passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns in the first half to help spark the LaGrange offense to a big performance.

“Whenever I got out there I have butterflies for the first play, but then after that I settle in,” he said. “I felt cool, calm and collected in those moments.”

Snowberger built an instant repertoire with starting quarterback Dylan Barber. The two juniors grew together as the season progressed and their relationship will be key for LaGrange in 2025.

“I actually used to play quarterback when I was younger, so it helped us make a connection when he came in,” Snowberger said with a chuckle.

Next season is already on the mind of Snowberger as he tries to push the heartbreaking ending to this season out of his mind. The Grangers lost 21-13 in the state semifinals in a game that went down to the final play.

As a sophomore, Snowberger came onto the scene late in the season. The wide out caught two passes for 68 yards against Fayette County in week 9 to turn some heads.

“I had a solid ninth grade year on JV, I had a great time and experience with the seniors and it was a real learning experience,” Snoweberger said. “We had some injuries late in the season last year and I had to step up the last few games. I’ve learned a lot of things from then to now in my junior year.”

Snowberger found football through baseball in a strange twist of fate. He quickly pushed baseball to the side and put all his focus on football.

“I got into football from Chase Mosley, his dad (Charles) Mosley was my coach when I was playing baseball at the time, and he asked me if I could play football. And I said, “I had never played football before, but gave it a shot and loved it right away,” he said.
