Make it five wins in a row for the Troup girls basketball team. The Tigers beat Heard County 61-54 on Saturday afternoon in a non-region clash.

Troup jumped on the Braves early, dominating the first quarter and taking a 28-7 advantage to the second. The Tigers offense could not match that level in the second quarter as the lead was cut to 39-21 heading to halftime.

Heard County would hang in the game, chipping away at the Troup lead slowly but surely.

The Troup lead was down to 15 points heading to the fourth quarter where things would get a bit dicey for the home team.

The Braves would fight until the bitter end, cutting the Troup lead to single digits for the first time since early in the first quarter with 5:28 left in the game (52-44). Heard County would cut the Troup lead all the way down to six points late in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers made just enough plays down the stretch to keep the Braves at bay.

Sheniyah Philpot was everywhere on offense for Troup on Saturday. The junior guard led all scorers with 25 points. She saved her best quarter for last, scoring nine points to prove she is a true closer.

Raygen Godfrey also had a good offensive showing, finishing with 12 points. Mia Wortham, Nasha Daniels and Ty Buckner all scored six points apiece.

Troup improved to 6-1 with the win. The Tigers will return to the court on Tuesday in a home game against region opponent Trinity Christian. Both teams are currently 3-0 in region play.
