The Troup boys basketball team put on an impressive display in front of their home crowd on Tuesday, blasting Trinity Christian 74-44.
It was all Tigers from the jump as they took their first double-digit lead just three minutes into the game on a 3-pointer from Jalen Brown. Just minutes later in the first quarter, Brown would give Troup a 20-point lead on a rim-rattling dunk.
Brown set the tone with 11 of his game-high 17 points in the first quarter.
Such a large lead early in the contest allowed Troup coach Vacher Hammett to go deep into his bench and get some of his less experienced players some valuable minutes in region play.
Troup had 13 different players get in the scoring column on Tuesday.
Troup’s lead stood at 25-4 after the opening quarter. The reserves got almost the entire second quarter and predictably, they lacked the rhythm of the first team and were outscored 10-8 in the second.
The third and fourth quarters were back to the way the first quarter looked with Troup doing whatever it wanted to on offense. The Tigers outscored the Lions 45-30 in the final two quarters of play.
While Brown led the team with 17 points, the scoring was spread out with just one other Tiger in double figures, Dee Moreland with 10 points. Moreland scored seven of those 10 points in the first as he along with Brown set the tone for the Troup offense.
Troup has now won three straight since its first loss of the season, a heartbreaking one-point defeat to Whitewater. Troup is now 7-1 overall and 3-1 in region play. The Tigers will return to action on Thursday in a home region matchup with Upson-Lee.
