The City of LaGrange will officially turn over its recycling services to Amwaste on Jan. 1.

In September, Steven Green, Director of Recycling for Amwaste, approached the city council with a request to take over the city’s recycling operations. The city’s recycling has not been a profitable venture, creating a loss on sanitation services of about $180,000.

Amwaste, which previously acquired C&C Recycling, is more equipped to do so profitably due to its larger-scale operations allowing for more efficient management of waste.

The city’s recycling center on Davis Road will close, but Amwaste will provide residents with two new options for recycling drop-offs at 2236 Greenville Rd and 844 Old Hutchinson Mill Rd. The Greenville Rd. The Greenville Rd. location will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Old Hutchinson Mill Rd location will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

With the change, Amwaste will offer an expanded range of recyclable materials, including plastics, aluminum and cardboard, and two new options: glass and Styrofoam.

Much of the city’s recycling equipment was also sold off to Amwaste after it was declared surplus.

“Amwaste’s leadership in waste management ensures that LaGrange residents have access to modern, convenient recycling options. The company’s advanced facilities are equipped to handle a broader array of materials, helping the community increase its recycling efforts and reduce waste sent to landfills,” said Amwaste in a press release.
