Ronald “Ron” Horton, 87, of Union City, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving daughters.
Born on July 6, 1937, in LaGrange, Georgia, Ron was the beloved son of the late Johnnie Mae Dickens and L. Herschel Horton, and his late stepfather, William “Bill” Thomas Dickens.
Ron graduated from College Park High School, where he played football. He then went on to Georgia Tech, graduating with a degree in Mathematics. He worked as a civil engineer before pursuing and completing his law degree, passing the bar in his early forties. Ron practiced corporate and civil law until his retirement, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues for his dedication and capability.
During retirement, Ron spent his time helping his family and indulging in his various interests, such as target practice and discussing current events with friends.
Ron is survived by his four children: Ron Horton Jr. of Billings, MT, and three grandsons, Ron III, Ethan, and Tyler; Cindie Horton of Marietta, GA, and one granddaughter, Savannah; Herschel Horton of Lakeland, FL, and one granddaughter, Ellie-Jane; and Dr. Betsy Horton Pawlowski of Fayetteville, GA.
In his younger years, Ron was passionate about gardening and produced some of the most delicious tomatoes. He was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed hunting. He also had a great appreciation for all types of music, including blues and jazz.
Ron was kind to people, often making them feel good with his humor and kind remarks. Most importantly, he was a good father who took the time to guide his children in the ways of this world that would help them to have a fuller life.
A memorial service will be held on December 23, 2024, at 11 A.M. at McDonald and Sons, 150 Sawnee Dr., Cumming, GA 30040.
