On Friday, the LaGrange Police Department Community Outreach, in conjunction with school resource officers (SRO), hosted an all-inclusive community engagement kids event at LaFayette Christian’s inclusive playground.
Officer Bryant Mosley said the event provided an opportunity for kids to come out and spend time with the SROs at their schools in a fun environment.
The event started at the Mike Daniel Recreation Center, and the kids were taken to the Jim and Annette Boyd Inclusive Athletic Complex at Lafayette Christian School.
“They opened up the fields for us so that we can continue to interact with the kids and continue to be there for them even when they’re on holiday, so they can continue to trust us and know that we’re there for them,” Mosley said.
Mosley said this is the first year LPD is doing the program. He said the event started over the summer, and they wanted to keep it rolling over holiday breaks.
“Any type of break in school, we’re going to promote it through our department to make sure they know we’re here, whether it’s cold or not, they can come out,” Mosley said. “I love that Lafayette Christian allowed us an opportunity to try some different locations.
About 20 kids attended the event throughout the day, Mosley said. LPD plans to host a similar event soon.
Another of the events will be held at the Jim and Annette Boyd Inclusive Athletic Complex on Jan. 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
