On Dec. 17, the Troup County Board of Commissioners affirmed the salary of new Juvenile Court Judge Janelle Johnson.
Johnson has been selected to serve a four-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2025, to take over for Judge Michael Key, who is retiring.
The salary for Juvenile Court Judge was set by the Superior Court and fixed at $151,000 per year, but it still needs to be affirmed by the county.
Because Judge Johnson has some conflict issues because of her service as an attorney representing many cases inside Juvenile Count, the Judicial Circuit Superior Court judges have asked Judge Key to stay on to provide conflict contract work for the county.
Key will be on a three-year contract starting at $30,000 per year. Because we are already halfway through the fiscal year, the first year will be prorated to $15,000. The annual contract will also go down each year with $30,000 for the first year, $24,000 for the second, and $18,000 for the last.
In other business, the commissioners:
- Approved a request for a new part-time position in the Clerk of Court’s Office.
- Approved a request by the Extension Service to surplus excess 4-H shotgun throwers.
- Approved a request for a resolution and agreement to participate in the ACCG First Responder PTSD Program.
- Approved a contract with McCallum Metal Works Inc. in the amount of $60,269 to replace the roof on the Soccer Complex Maintenance Building (also known as The Old Bus Barn) located at 1712 Whitesville Road.
- Approved the purchase of three work trucks (2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Pro) from Auto Gallery in LaGrange for $42,589 each for the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Approved submitting a grant request for the 2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
- Approved a request by Accountability Courts to accept CACJ grant awards.
