It was all Warriors in a cross-town showdown between Lafayette Christian and LaGrange Academy on Friday night as the latter earned a dominant 69-44 victory.
The Cougars hung around in the game early and trailed just 20-14 after the opening quarter. It would soon unravel for the away side as LaGrange Academy was able to dominate the second quarter and take a 40-19 lead into halftime.
The Cougars huffed and puffed in the second half but could not get back into the game, allowing LaGrange Academy head coach Britt Gaylor to deploy his young backups.
Lafayette Christian had no answers for the Warrior tandem of Kayde Bradfield and Alex Jarvholm. The former led the team with 23 points while the latter finished with 22 as the duo outscored the entire Lafayette Christian team by themselves.
The two scored in different ways as Bradfield made 9 of his 10 free throw attempts while Jarvholm connected on three 3-pointers.
Owen Sells is really starting to emerge as an offensive threat and finished Friday night with 13 points for the Warriors.
Offense was a struggle for the Cougars on the other hand as they only had two players crack double figures in scoring. Payton Griggs and Aaron Davis finished with 12 points apiece. The next highest scorers for Lafayette Christian on the night were Caleb Hinton and Chandler Harrison, who finished with six points each.
LaGrange Academy has now won five games in a row to improve to 6-4 on the season the Warriors will look to keep the winning streak going on Saturday away to Westwood. Lagrange Academy beat Westwood in a thrilling 59-51 game at home in December.
Lafayette Christian’s struggles continued as the team fell to 0-8. A young Cougars team will return to the court next Tuesday at home against Holy Ground.
