Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Byron Jones was elected President for the Georgia Association of School Business Officials (GASBO). He will serve in this capacity for 2025 and remain on the board thereafter. This board is comprised of 14 board members from school systems around the State of Georgia.
GASBO comprises greater than 180 school districts throughout the state and represents a membership of approximately 625 people. There is an annual conference that was recently hosted in Athens, GA whereby the nomination/election took place.
GSCS CFO Byron Jones stated, “Without the support of GSCS Superintendent Keith Simmons, Board of Education members, my staff and my family this honor would not have been possible. I am grateful for the opportunity to represent a great community and staff, and I look forward to providing a resource for information to enhance our school system in Griffin-Spalding as well as working to improve processes for the entire state of Georgia.
Jones previously served a two-year board term from 2017-2019 and was elected again in 2021. He has served since then with GASBO and continues to work to improve the educational environment within the state. Jones formerly held positions as CFO in Meriwether and Troup counties.
Jones is a graduate of Troup County High School, LaGrange College, and the State University of West GA. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the GA School Boards Association regarding Workers Compensation and Risk Management programs.
