The Troup girls basketball team bounced back from losing last time out by dominating Valley (AL) 52-29 on Friday night.

The Tigers took control of the game early, outscoring the Rams 16-9 in the first quarter. By halftime, the Troup lead swelled to 32-13 and the home team never looked back from there. Sheniyah Philpot set the tone early for Troup with nine points in the first quarter.

With such a large halftime advantage, Troup coach Carla Thornton was able to go to her bench in the second half and allow some of her younger players some valuable minutes. Even with a shot of youth in the lineup in the second half, the Tigers outscored the Rams 20-18 over the final two quarters of play.

The dynamic duo of Raygen Godfrey and Philpot did the majority of the damage for Troup on the night as the former scored 16 and the latter 15 as the pair outscored the Rams on the night by themselves.

Godfrey showed her ability from deep, connecting on four 3-pointers while Philpot was in attack mode all night, finishing with five free throw attempts and just one make from beyond the arch.

Jaz Williams also had a good offensive showing for Troup, finishing with nine points. She had a chance to fill the state sheet even more but connected on just 3 of her 10 free throw attempts.

Makaila Adams carried the offensive load for Valley, scoring 13 points on the night. The next highest scorers were Zorriah Simpson and Kayden Dooley with five points apiece as the Rams struggled to break down the vaunted Tiger defense.

Troup moved to 9-2 overall and remained at 5-0 in region play. The Tigers will travel to take on Sandy Creek on Saturday for a region matchup.
