The LaGrange Academy boys basketball team won its seventh straight game on Tuesday, beating Flint River 60-55. This is one of the best periods in recent history for the team as they combined to win just seven games total in the last two seasons.

The Warriors took an early advantage, leading 21-12 after the opening quarter of play. Alex Jarvholm set the tone early with 13 of his game-high 29 points in the first quarter.

Flint River would not go away and cut the LaGrange Academy lead to 31-28 heading into halftime. The Wildcats had a chance to send the game into the break tied up, but missed a 3-pointer as time expired in the half.

The second half was a dogfight as the teams went back and forth.

An unlikely hero helped the Warriors. Grayson Salter helped salt away the game down the stretch. He entered the fourth quarter with no points and then proceeded to hit a massive 3-pointer to put the Warriors up 57-51 with two minutes left in the contest. He would also hit clutch free throws down the stretch to extend the lead out to 60-55 with just 38.7 seconds on the clock.

Jarvholm was also clutch for the Warriors with seven points in the fourth quarter. Kayde Bradfield played his part all night and finished with 20 points for the Warriors.

Bradfield had just three points in the third, but they were crucial. The Wildcats tied the game up at 49 with under five minutes to go in the game — the first time the game had been tied since the first quarter —- when Bradfield delivered a huge 3-pointer that gave the Warriors the lead and momentum back which they would never relinquish over the home stretch.

LaGrange Academy improved to 8-4 on the season. The Warriors started the season 1-3, but have enjoyed a remarkable turnaround over the last month and have not lost a game since Dec. 6.

This is the most wins in a season for LaGrange Academy since the 2015-16 season in which they won nine games.

The Warriors will look to keep the winning streak going on Friday away to St. George’s.
