LaGrange College is set to host its annual dance marathon to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Each year in the spring LC Miracle, LaGrange College’s Dance Marathon program hosts a dance marathon that raises money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, specifically Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

“It’s a big dance party, but there’s not just dancing. There’s also a ton of fundraising incentives going on during that event,” said Kenzie Hornsby, Executive Director of LC Miracle.

The event will also include kids and families from the hospitals who are either currently being treated there or have been treated at Miracle Network hospitals.

“They come and share their stories of how they got to the hospital and how the hospital has impacted their life. It’s just a really sweet moment,” Hornsby said.

At the very end of the event, there is the big total reveal of how much money LC Miracle has raised all year. Hornsby said they raised just over $25,000 last year.

“This year we’re trying to beat that,” she said.

Since the program started in 2019, LC Miracle has raised $117,817.12 for the Miracle Network Hospitals. The program has grown almost every year since it started.  The group raised $15,623 its first year and the fundraising has increased every year except for one year during the pandemic.

“LC Miracle was started up by a group of students and a particular trailblazer, Nikkola Guzzi . She’s now a nurse at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta post graduation from LaGrange College,” Hornsby said. “They started the program at our campus. The Dance Marathon network is a network that specifically raises money for those hospitals. We don’t choose the hospitals.”

Hornsby said the theme of this year’s campaign is “Hope on the Hill”.

“That kind of sums up why we’re doing what we’re doing. One of the pillars of LaGrange College is service and as a service organization, we’re the largest student-run service organization on campus. We just want to be able to give back,” she said. “The reason that we continue to do this is because we really do want to be a beacon of hope on the hill.”

This year’s dance marathon will be held on April 6, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Beason Recital Hall in the West Side building at LaGrange College.
