LaGrange Academy did not have enough girls to fill out a high school varsity lineup this year. Instead, the Warriors are fielding a JV team that is made up of a collection of extremely talented middle schoolers. On Friday, they showed just how talented they are, beating Fulton Science Academy’s JV team resoundingly 50-16.
“They have so much composure. I mean all of them love playing together. They play all the time. They’re experienced, and it’s just fun to be with them. And you know, the night they go against the JV team, and it’s just they leave it, they’re not even facing
The Warriors won the game with a defensive intensity that is difficult for any team, JV or middle school, to match. The most points the Warriors surrendered in any quarter on Friday was a paltry six in the third quarter.
LaGrange Academy meant business from the opening tip and quickly took a 16-4 lead after the opening quarter. By halftime, the margin was even more in the home team’s favor as they led 31-10 heading into the break.
The Warriors were able to take their foot off the gas in the second half with such a commanding lead intact.
The Edelson twins were in complete control of the game. Molly Edelson carved the Mustangs up in time to a game-high 24 points — 10 of this came in the first quarter as she set the tone early for the Warriors.
“Molly Edelson is the connector point for us,” Gaylor said. “The big thing I’ve been talking about with them is, let’s play together. Every night we want to play together. And Molly is connecting the dots on all that. All the girls have responded to it.”
Ava Edelson was just behind her with a cool 21 points on the night.
