The LaGrange Academy boys basketball team has officially gone streaking. The Warriors have put together one of the best stretches in program history, winning their 10th game in a row on Friday night, trouncing Fulton Science Academy 72-60.

“The guys have just put in work, like we just kept getting better, kept getting better, and now we put it together. And so I’m really proud of how they’ve come together as a team, and how much work they’re continuing to put in because that’s what it’s all about,” said Britt Gaylor, LaGrange Academy’s head coach.

One of the best players in GIAA, Alex Jarvholm, had one of the best showings of his career on Friday, scoring a whopping 47 points.

Jarvholm did it from all over the court, hitting five 3-pointers and sinking 16 of 17 free throws. Of all of his spectacular plays on Friday, one stood out the most. Jarvholm stole the ball and drilled a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to give the Warriors a 31-30 lead at halftime.

“Plays like that are huge for us and he has this unbelievable composure to just pull up and knock it down, and it gave us that momentum,” Gaylor said. “But the big thing is we closed the half well, because we were down seven, and we pushed it all the way back and retook the lead.”

Jarvolm’s made 3-pointer punctuated a back-and-forth first half. LaGrange Academy took a 14-13 lead after the opening quarter.

The second quarter looked like it would belong to the Mustangs, who led by seven late in the half, but the Warriors closed the half on an 8-0 run to retake the lead going into halftime.

Even if Jarvholm’s 3-pointer would have rolled out at the buzzer Gaylor was confident in his team in the second half. “So whether that shot goes in or it doesn’t, we’ve been a second-half team all year, so we were confident coming out of halftime regardless if we were leading or trailing.”

The Warrior defense was swarming to start the second half. LaGrange Academy outscored the Mustangs 17-8 in the third quarter to take a double-digit lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.

Kayde Bradfield kept the offense humming alongside Jarvholm. The junior finished with 17 points — 12 of which came in the second half.

Andrew Knight continues to progress as a ball handler and scored seven points on the night.

“Andrew Knight’s growth and taking care of the ball and playing defense has been huge for us,” Gaylor said.

LaGrange Academy improved to 11-4 overall. Friday’s win was a perfect encapsulation of the progress the Warriors have made so far this season. LaGrange Academy’s last loss of the season came to the Mustangs on Dec. 16 as the Warriors settled for a 60-49 loss on the road.

“I mean, we lost to them up at their place about 11. We come in here, and we beat them, and we were in control the second half. Like, that’s a huge step. And yes, Alex and Kayde are scoring for us, playing great, but it is the role players and the whole team,” Gaylor said. “Grayson Salter is taking care of the ball and playing great defense. Owen Sells, Knox Jones, all of them are doing the little things right.”

The Warriors hit the road next Tuesday as they travel to Flint River.
