TCSO investigating fire death

On Jan. 23 around 8 a.m., Troup County 911 received a call regarding a camper that was on fire in the 200 block of Wilcox Road. Troup County Fire Department personnel arrived and found a camper fully involved. Deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were also dispatched to the location to assist with traffic control.
After fire suppression efforts were complete and the fire was deemed under control, a deceased occupant was located in the camper. Troup County Fire Chief Michael Strickland and Deputy Fire Chief Zac Steele immediately notified the Troup County Fire Marshal and State Fire Marshal’s Office to assist in the investigation the incident.
The cause of the fire and identify of the occupant remains under investigation. Along with the Troup County Fire Department and the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, the Troup County Coroner’s Office and Troup County Marshal’s Office also responded to the location.
