The Callaway boys basketball team has won back-to-back games for just the second time this season. The Cavaliers would go on to earn a 70-61 win over Pike County.
Callaway would have to answer the bell early on after the Pirates started the game on a 6-0 run.
The Cavaliers would answer with a 9-2 run to take their first lead of the game in what would prove to be a back-and-forth affair early.
Callaway would finish the first quarter with a 17-12 lead.
With a little bit of momentum on their side, the Cavaliers were able to edge out the second quarter in what was a struggle for both offenses. Callaway was able to extend its lead out to 27-18 heading into the locker rooms for halftime.
The third quarter was largely a stalemate until Bryceton Sanders hit a deep 3-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer to send the Cavaliers to the fourth quarter with a 50-39 advantage.
The Pirates would not go away quietly and trimmed the Callaway lead to as few as two points with a shade over three minutes left in the game, but BreShun Hall would answer with a personal 4-point run to give the home side a little breathing room and they never looked back from there. Hall would finish the game with 12 points.
The only other Cavalier in double figures on the night was Sanders, who was electric in the second half. The senior finished with 20 points — 15 of which came in the second half.
Callaway moved to 6-14 overall and 6-3 in region play. This has been the team’s best stretch of the season, winning three of the last four games with the only loss coming by eight points to a tough region opponent in Westside (Macon).
The Cavaliers will close out their regular season home schedule with a matchup against Harris County on Tuesday before traveling to Morgan County on Friday for their regular season finale.
