HOGANSVILLE – Callaway High’s track team will be represented by two relay teams and individuals in three different events during today’s Class AAA state sectional at Gordon Central.

Among Callaway’s sectional qualifiers are three individuals who finished third in their respective events.

DeAsia Hill finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.52 seconds, and she out-sprinted a pair of Haralson County runners by less than half a second to earn her spot at the sectional.

Also for Callaway, DQ Wilkerson made it through to the sectional by finishing third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.72 seconds.

Callaway’s other third-place finisher was Tatiana Jenkins, who had a time of 1:06 in the 400-meter run.

Callaway’s boys’ 1,600-meter relay team qualified for the sectional by finishing third.

After posting the seventh-fastest time in the preliminary heat, Callaway’s 1,600 relay team made a dramatic improvement in the finals.

Callaway’s team of Nick Trammell, Wilkerson, Kaine Pike and Travis Taylor had a time of 3:56 in the finals, and that was 14 seconds faster than the preliminary time.

Callaway’s boys’ 400-meter relay team earned a fourth-place finish at the region meet.

Trammell, Wilkerson, Tyrek Frazier and D’Jon Atkins were fifth in the preliminary race, but they improved on that by one position in the finals to advance.

Coming up just short of qualifying for the sectional were Sierra Jones (1,600-meter run), Wilkerson (200-meter dash) and Trammell (400) who had fifth-place finishes.

For Troup High, Akhya Mitchell earned a spot in the Class AAAA state sectional by finishing fourth in the high jump at the Region 5-AAAA competition.
