The LaGrange College Theatre and An Affair to Remember will present Alan Ball’s “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, through Saturday, Oct. 8, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at Price Theater.
The play focuses on five bridesmaids sharing their perspectives on love and marriage in an upstairs bedroom above the wedding reception.
“There is a wonderful zaniness and energy to the play, yet there are serious moments as well when these characters reveal personal stories and insecurities in their search for love in all the wrong places,” said Director and Theatre Arts Professor Kim Barber Knoll.
Knoll said she wanted to direct an upbeat comedy for the college’s Homecoming this week.
“The play is a celebration of the spirit and sense of humor these characters possess in order to deal with all that life throws at them,” she said.
Sophomore Hayleigh Sebaugh, who is playing the role of Georgeanne, said her character is an emotional roller coaster.
“She is outspoken and wild and misses the thrill of her younger years,” she said.
Junior Carlie Jones, who is playing the role of Meredith, the bride’s younger sister who is annoyed with the entire wedding fiasco, said her character is witty, sarcastic and carrying a secret that gets revealed later in the play.
Making their debut on the Price Theater stage are freshmen Aubrey Helton, Aria Mabry and Isabella Rapoza. They are playing the roles of Frances, Trisha and Mindy respectively.
Mabry said her character is like a mother figure for all the girls.
“She is the most experienced of all the women when it comes to relationships and she serves as the all-things-about-men therapist to them,” she said. Her character also has a scene with the only man in the play, Tripp Davenport, an usher, played by senior Dee Hare.
The production’s run time is 70 minutes with no intermission. The PG-13 comedy is not recommended for children due to explicit language and mature themes.
Tickets can be reserved online by emailing priceboxoffice@lagrange.edu. The email must include the performance date and the number of people in the party. Tickets are $10. Seating is general admission, and the house will open 20 minutes before curtain.
