LaGRANGE — Early voting is underway for the May 24 primary, which includes candidates U.S. Congress, Georgia General Assembly, Georgia Public Service Commissioner, countywide offices, judges and a referendum to continue the 1-percent educational special-propose, local-option sales tax.

Registered voters may cast ballots Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until May 20 at the Troup County Government Center, 100 Ridley Ave. in LaGrange. Saturday voting will be held May 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A photo ID is required to vote.

Voters must choose between a Democratic, Republican or nonpartisan ballot. Electors may cast a ballot in a party race different from the one they cast in the presidential primary earlier this year. For example, if an elector voted for Hillary Clinton in the Democratic presidential primary earlier this year, he or she may still opt to cast a vote in the Republican race this cycle.

Registered voters may visit the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page at www.mvp.sos.ga.gov to log in and view sample ballots prior to voting. Visitors will need to input their first initial, last name, county of voter registration and date of birth to log in. The MVP site also shows voters in which precinct they vote, allows for the application of an absentee ballot and precinct cards can be printed.

Because Troup County is split between three Georgia House of Representative districts and two different Georgia Senate districts, a resident of southern Troup County will have a slightly different ballot than a resident of northern Troup County. Voters should use the Secretary of State’s MVP site to find which district will be on their ballot.
