On Thursday, Callaway High School will have its second annual homecoming festival. According to CHS graphic design teacher and student council advisor Shelby Goins, the festival will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Callaway High.

In case of rain, the festival will be rescheduled, Goins said. The festival was Goins idea.

Initially, she approached Principal Jason Graham about it and together they brainstormed ways of bringing an event to the campus that involved the Hogansville and LaGrange communities.

“We wanted something on our campus that was mostly free or low budget, that the community could come out to,” Goins said.

“Elementary kids, middle schoolers and high schoolers could all come together in fellowship as the community comes onto our campus to see what we’re all about at Callaway.”

The festival will include face painting, a bonfire, a bake sale put on by CHS cheerleaders, a performance by the CHS marching band, a petting zoo organized by the CHS agriculture club, a costume contest, a trunk or treat, a car smash and a chance to meet the 2022 CHS homecoming court. 

“If you’re part of the Callaway community, if you’ve had a child that has gone to Callaway or is currently going to Callaway or went to Callaway yourself, you know that this is a family bond,” Goins said.

“To be a part of it and to get to come back and experience some of that, especially during homecoming week is just what it’s all about.”
